Welcome to Octagon Hill Farm

Octagon Hill Farm is nestled atop five rolling acres just north of the city of Marshall in south-central Michigan, convenient to both I-69 and I-94.  The historic home, built in 1859, is one of the few remaining octagon residences in the State of Michigan.  Formerly a cattle farm, the original barn collapsed in 2000 under a heavy snowfall.  During the summer of 2007, two new horse pastures were erected and Octagon Hill Farm welcomed home it's first two equine residents.

December 2008 News

Now who in their right mind would let a Michigan winter get the best of them?  Certainly not us!  Mattie and Misty continue their regular training sessions at least five days a week in the indoor arena at the beautiful Nottawa Paint Horse Farm.  Though it is a bit lonely not having any horses at home, Nottawa is just a short jaunt up the road (however Jen might be driving them crazy because she is there so much!).  We are currently looking for a kind person to lease Misty in order to free up Jen to spend more time schooling Mattie, please click here for info.

Jen is pleased to be working with Douglas Puterbaugh (above) of Puterbaugh Dressage Sport.  Currently located in California but originally from the Southeast Michigan area, Doug makes frequent trips to visit family and friends.  Please contact Doug directly, or email Jen if you would like to view a training session or would like to schedule a private lesson of your own with this FEI level trainer and rider during one of his return visits.

November 2008 News

We are pleased to announce that Misty has now moved to Nottawa Paint Horse Farm in Marshall for the winter, and is being used for the Albion College Stock Seat Equestrian Team!  Photos of Misty in action will be coming soon and we wish the team the best of luck in their first-ever hosted show at Albion College on November 22nd!

Mattie is progressing famously and we are currently working to solidify basic Training Level exercises while beginning work on leg yielding and lateral movements.  Photos forthcoming.

September 2008 News

Much has happened since our last site update!  The facility we were operating in Battle Creek has recently been sold, so we've moved Misty back home for the winter to relax, munch on hay, and give the occasional ride to the kids or Todd.  Mattie has fully recovered from her splint bone surgery in July, and was started back under saddle a couple weeks ago.  She is doing wonderfully, and we would like to thank our veterinarian, Don Palmer DVM, of Preferred Equine Veterinary Services in Jackson, and the wonderful staff at Oakdale Large Animal Clinic in Homer for her excellent care.  Mattie now resides at Nottawa Paint Horse Farm in Marshall, and Jen plans to work with her through the winter and debut at Training Level at USDF sanctioned shows in the spring.  Below are some pictures taken of Jen and Mattie late August (click on thumbnails to enlarge).
